Trying To Quit Smoking? There’s An App To Help You Track Your Progress

Some say that there's an app for everything these days and they aren't wrong. There's now an app that's made for smokers who are trying to quit that tracks the hours since the last cigarette was smoked. While it's not going to stop any smokers from smoking cigarettes, it just might help some smokers get that little extra boost in confidence that they need to keep on pushing forward after they've quit.

The app is called Quit Smoking Tracker and it's made by a vape company. If you're thinking that a vape company making an app to help smokers quit sounds crazy, you might not be familiar with how some vape companies think when it comes to cigarettes.

For some vape companies, cigarettes are basically the devil. The smoke they produce contains tar (yuck) and carcinogens linked to cancer. While vaping might not be safe, the latest evidence review by Public Health England has concluded that it's likely a lot less harmful than smoking, giving smokers reason to switch from cigarette smoker to e-liquid vaper. So while there are those that might look at today's e-cigarette companies and think that they're just as bad as the big tobacco companies behind the major cigarette brands, there are those who think differently. In some cases, there are those who even see vape companies as an unlikely savior for cigarette smokers who have tried the patch, cold turkey, and gum without any luck.

    How to operate the app

    Here's how the app works:

    1. Install the app on your Android device.
    2. Load the app.
    3. Click the button that says start tracking.

Follow those steps and the app will start tracking from the moment you press the tracking button. You don't have to leave the app open, it'll track in the background even if it has been closed.

    What's the point?

The point of the app is simple: keep track of the time that has gone by since the user of the app quit smoking. In some cases, this will mean that the app's user has switched to vaping. Whatever the case, once that last cigarette has been smoked, it's time to start tracking with the app. This gives the user a reliable count of the hours, days, weeks, and months that have been passed. Each hour that goes by takes the user that much further down their path to a smoke-free life. That's the point.

Will it give its users the encouragement that they need to stick with their quit plan? Maybe. Will it work for everyone? Well, the app will work on anyone running an Android 4.4 or higher device, but using it won't guarantee that the user will stay away from smoking. For those that slip up and revert back to smoking, there's a reset button. It's there for a reason. What's that reason? Not all users will give up smoking on their first try. At least, that's the assumption.

    Are there any hidden charges?

There are no hidden charges. The app is absolutely free to download and use, making it a handy tool for the quitting smoker. There are no secret charges and for that matter, there's not even a point at which you need to enter in any payment details. However, there is a small advertisement tacked onto the bottom of the app's interface. The advertisement is for Vaper Empire's product line, which shouldn't be too surprising in light of the fact that Vaper Empire made the app.

The app won't annoy you with any popups or anything, at least not in the latest version. Based on the release notes, it appears that the app's original release contained a feature called "push notifications," that would allow the app's maker to send users of the app notifications on the devices that have the app installed. With this feature no longer included, the app is basically annoyance-free.

    Over 100 Users

Right now, there are over 100 devices that have installed the Quit Smoking Tracker. That is since the app, which is 7.1M in size, was released earlier in 2019. How many of those users have managed to quit smoking? We have no idea, but if it has even helped one user quit smoking then it would seem to be worth its salt.

    Who is Vaper Empire?

Those outside of Australia and New Zealand might not have heard of the Vaper Empire vape company because they only sell their line of vape kits and e-liquids in Australia and New Zealand. They've been in the e-cigarette business since 2012 and they've managed to make a name for themselves as a leading premium e-cig company in the markets in which they operate. They don't sell cheap e-juice or cheap e-cigarettes. Instead of selling the cheap stuff, they aim to provide their customers with high-quality vape products - an admirable goal for a company operating in an industry with no shortage of capitalists that are just trying to make a quick buck as vaping's popularity explodes.

    Get the tracker

Downloading the tracker is easy if you already have an Android device with the Google Play Store marketplace app installed. Just load the Play Store, search for "Vaper Empire Quit Smoking Tracker" and you will find it there. It can also be downloaded from CNET. Either way, it's the same app, version 1.0.1, which is available on both app stores. The cost, again, is absolutely nothing. There's no charge, no fees, just a free app that anyone can use to track how well they're doing with their attempt to quit smoking.
