Investigations Continue Into CBD Oil Health Claims

News 5 WKRG in Alabama interviewed CBD oil users who previously relied on traditional pain relief and controlled medications to address their medical concerns and conditions. Those interviewed indicated that they have had excellent results since switching making the switch.

What are CBD oil users saying?

One user from Fairhope was diagnosed with a debilitating condition and underwent severalsurgeries on her head and neck. She relied on opioids for pain relief but they weren’t helping.  She decided to try CBD oil. Her overall experience is less stress and a peaceful feeling. Her doctor is also pleased with her progress and encourages her to continue CBD oil.

Also interviewed was a mother from Saraland. Her 2-year-old son has cerebral palsy and epilepsy and had 200 to 400 seizures a day. He was on doctor-prescribed medication but the seizures persisted. Since she started him on CBD oil, he has fewer seizures and is less irritable.

A Thriving Business

A local store owner who sells CBD products says business is booming. She is happy to help her customers experience the benefits of using them. She also shared that she makes sure to know what she is selling by using a third-party lab to verify the ingredients. She encourages users to consult their doctors before taking CBD oil because it may interact with other medications.

CBD and the FDA

Although the FDA has not thoroughly regulated CBD, it approved the use of Epidiolex in June 2018. Epidiolex contains CBD and is used to treat Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome and Dravet Syndrome, two rare conditions characterized by epileptic seizures in children. Epidiolex must be prescribed by a doctor and cannot be administered to children under the age of two.

Executive Director of Mobile’s Drug Education Council believes that CBD oil has the potential to provide a number of health benefits once used appropriately. She also stated that FDA regulated pharmaceutical-grade CBD is the safest route to take.

What does the future look like for CBD oil?

CBD oil is gaining recognition for its medicinal values and the FDA is continuing to monitor this new phenomenon. Despite the many claims made by users, more research is needed. The World Health Organization has shown that CBD exhibits no effect indicative of any abuse or dependence potential in humans.
