Public Health England to the rescue: Vaping still safe!

Though relatively young, the influence of vaping on the world is quite palpable. The reduction in the number of cigarette smokers worldwide is significant and undeniable by any means. But just as vaping companies and enthusiasts begin to bask in the glory of vaping success, up come the scientists and critics. They are flooding the media with their overwhelming studies and statistics wrought by skepticism.
Public Health England (PHE), however, is not about to let the skeptics have the last say. It stands firm that vaping is 95% safer than cigarettes. It has even gone so far as to release avideo showing the effects of smoking on the lungs. All this is in an effort to dispel any doubts in the minds of smokers that could deter them from making the switch to a healthier lifestyle.
According to Professor John Newton, Director of Health Improvement at PHE:
“It would be tragic if thousands of smokers who could quit with the help of an e-cigarette were being put off by misconceptions about its safety. We need to reassure smokers that vaping poses a far less threat than smoking. The demonstration does just that.” (PHE, 2018)
Dr. Lion Shahab, from University College London, also made the statement:
“The false belief that vaping is as harmful as smoking could be preventing thousands of smokers from switching to e-cigarettes to help them quit. The experiment is aimed at helping people see the tremendous damage caused by smoking that could be avoided by switching to an e-cigarette.” (PHE, 2018)
The authors of these contradicting studies have made it clear that their aim was in no way to deter persons from looking at vaping as a viable option to quit smoking. Rather they simply admonish caution regarding the safety of vaping. However, PHE is not giving up without a fight.
It has maintained its stance in support of vaping and encouraging smokers totry vaping to quit. It has even garnered the assistance of other agencies in its strive towards the enlightenment of the smoking population. Its education is not just on the dangers of smoking and the potential benefits of vaping but also a comparison of the two. It also aims to enlighten persons on the health benefits associated with a lifestyle change.
